When money worries you, where do you start?
Take stock without judging yourself, then choose one useful first step.
Start with one upcoming payment, rather than your entire financial life.
Financial difficulty does not define you
Money worries can affect sleep and relationships. FCAC notes that financial stress affects people across income levels and age groups.
Less income, an unexpected bill or a higher cost of living can upset your finances. A budget helps make the gap visible; it does not make an income shortfall disappear.
One first step in CapSolde
Choose the payment that concerns you most. Write down its amount, its date and any income expected before then. Check your opening account balance and the money you want to keep aside.
Add your other known payments before relying on the estimated amount left. If an amount is missing, look for it on a bill or statement: missing information does not mean an expense of zero dollars.
When payments become difficult
Contact your financial institution early to ask about possible options. In CapSolde, a simulated delay helps you compare; it is not an agreement with your creditor.
A credit counselling organization can also help you take stock. In Quebec, ACEFs often offer this support. Check the services, fees and reputation of an organization before committing.
